Write a discussion response
The Leader Member Exchange Theory, also known as the LMX Theory, is a theory that I have found effective in my leadership and plan to use more in future leadership. The theory centers around the separate communication efforts between group efforts as well as communication and accountability on a personal individual basis between a leader and their employees. It is a valuable skill to practice when carrying out an overall goal working with a group that takes multiple different talents and processes carried out by individuals. The theory emphasizes how leadership behaviors on not just a group basis, but also an individual basis create a successful and productive workplace. The theory outlines behaviors such as mutual loyalty, respect, obligation, trust, and open communication to the be the “cornerstone” of effective leadership.
I plan to use the knowledge from this theory in the future to outline my relationships and communication with future teams. I have found it important in my experience as well as what this theory emphasizes to not only focus on group communication and bonding, but communication in a one on one setting. Group settings are great for discussion and establishing the overall goals of the company, but the individuals are the ones taking the steps to fulfill the overall group goals. I will use this theory to personally reach out to individuals for checkups and brainstorming to develop and encourage thinking outside the box of a group. One on one communication can also allow coworkers to feel as if they have someone to bounce ideas off of and build on them. As a leader it is important to establish that overall group goal and work with the individuals more closely to see how that idea can be done. I plan to use this strategy in my future leadership.
